Although we often take today’s Christmas celebration customs for granted, most of the so-called “traditional” Christmas practices only date back to the 19th century. Many of these customs originated in Germany and Austria. Alpine Thunder will take you on a musical journey through Germany relating German Christmas music,
and, other German folk songs to traditional holiday practices, German culture, language and geography
On October 18th, 2016, Alpine Thunder returned to the Glenview Public Library for their 10th year performance. Each year we perform our Oktoberfest Cultural Program where we reference German Oktoberfest culture and geography to the music performed at this time. This time we had Alpine Thunder perform as a quintet with three alphorns. Prost Oktoberfest! Prost Glenview Public Library for making this happen!
Starting January of 2016 Alpine Thunder has added a third alphorn – Alphorn Thunder!
Three alphorns allow us to get fuller and more interesting sounds as well as an impressive visual factor. This group can perform with the Alpine Thunder band or can be used as an independent ensemble for special events.
Wednesday September 16th: Alpine Thunder appears on the WGN Morning Show for the 30th annual Berghoff Oktoberfest with Ana and the Around the Town segment. It was a fun session with Ana as she played alphorn with the band.
We are looking forward to the celebration of Schaumburg, Illinois, USA, acknowledging their heritage, the county of Schaumburg, Germany. Many of the original settlers were from this German county. Alpine Thunder will be performing a cultural program integrating German geography and culture with German folk music. The date is Wednesday, June 24th, at the Schaumburg Public Library from 7-8:15PM. View our Show section on our web site for more details.
Starting in Oktoberfest 2014 we have added a second alphorn to our musical instrument capabilities. Gut Holz – Besserere Stimmung!
